Bismillah Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Raheem. Alhumdulillah. Peace and blessings on Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wa sallam), his Noble Companions and Family. Dear Committed brothers, dear committed sisters,
The way and the manner and the attitude that some Muslims have in today’s real world is that they say and they feel- but they won’t say it frankly and in these words but their character and their behaviour implies- that Islam is a lost cause. We ask Allah not to be included in that crowd even though it is a crowd of numbers. These types of nominal Muslims don’t understand who they are. It is because of today’s real world and what is happening in it and no instantaneous results on their watch that they can see in the physical world that they sort-of have withdrawn from the higher responsibilities of this commitment to Allah. This type of attitude and frame of mind is not new. Actually it is a permanent feature of human history (and) of Prophetic history. Prophets of Allah were in the midst of people like that and the Prophets of Allah, at times, themselves felt that there’s no longer hope out there in society, in the world. Prophet Nuh (alayhi as salaam) said at that point in time.
O Allah- leave not one resident Kafir in this world. (Surah Nuh verse 26)
Now the reason some Muslims feel “look- how far can we go with this Islam, with this Iman (and) with this commitment to Allah? How far can we go? Look around. Look at the real world? Look at what is happening? Can’t you see what’s happening?” The reason these types of individuals may come out and say these types of words is because the Kafir power structure has, first of all, penetrated their psychology and then it has come down on their day to day life. So, as an example, in the cited ayaat from surah Nuh, when Nuh looked around he saw that those who are with him are very few; there’s not many people and this social and power structure around him is predominant, eminent, overwhelming (and) in your face, so he said
Nuh said: Oh my Sustainer- leave not on this earth a dwelling Kafir. If you leave this in the condition it is in i.e. if you leave these Kafirs dwelling here they will mislead your subjects (and) your servants and they will only breed more Fajirs and more Kafirs. (Surah Nuh verse 26-27)
Another Prophet- this is our history. They don’t teach you this in elementary school (and) they probably don’t teach you this in an Islamic school because the curricular in Islamic schools are subject to the approval of this same Kafir structure! So Shu’ayb (alayhi as salaam), another Prophet of Allah had these words coming at him from these powers structures.
His own people said: Oh Shu’ayb- does your salah require of you that we part with the ways and the conformity and the ancestral precedents or does your salah tell you that we can’t do whatever we want with our money? (Surah Hud verse 87)
You have your salah- right? You may ask at this point: we all perform our salah, but does our salah tell us, before telling them, that we should behave with a financial character? This is what they were objecting to; but it seems like we don’t provide that same reference of objection today?!
We know the long saga of Musa (alayhi as salaam) had Bani Isra’eel with him. At one time, he even had the sahra i.e. those who are called magicians who were around the Pharoah who came to him (or) to his side but then, because of this Kafir power structure, his own people who he delivered from slavery (and) he rescued from an underclass in Egypt had him leave them and he himself died in what can be called a psychological exile. All of this has to do with the power structure. Banu Isra’eel have a mentality that is expressed to us in the Qur’an and we Muslims have that same mentality- we are like Bani Isra’eel. At one point Banu Isra’eel said to Musa,
… Musa- why can’t you have us have a God in the same manner they have gods? (Surah Al A’raf verse 138)
Meaning these other people have gods and we have One God! Why can’t we be like them i.e. make that One God the same way these others have their many gods. Gods here is in reference to authorities and deities. So what distinguishes you? You are supposed to have One Deity and One Authority- so what distinguishes you from the rest? This is applicable to you who say “you are Muslims and you read the Qur’an and all of these.”
Isa (alayhi as salaam) had to deal with the same dynamics. There were riff-raff in that society who were supported by the religious establishment who went out to get him. These types of issues were, sort of, folded at the end of the times of these Prophets. Then came our Prophet- the final Prophet; a Prophet unto mankind and the same thing happens again. You have in society a power structure (and) you have the few who are on his side and you have the many who are opposed to him. We have in our history
The pioneers of the Hijra and the pioneers of the Nusra i.e. the people who were forced out of Makkah at the beginning of that Prophetic struggle and the people who supported the Prophet during the beginning of an Islamic order in Al Madinah and those who exactly followed … (Surah At Tawbah verse 100)
Then you had the Qurayshi elites. Here, once again, look brothers and sisters- this would be a dream world if we didn’t have these types of opponents in history and now and in the future. Won’t everyone like that? But in nature of life, in the nature of humanity itself the way Allah created us there’s always going to be these who are going to give us a hard time just because we want to subject our total selves, potentials (and) activities to Allah. What’s criminal about that? But they’ve made right now in the world a criminal case against us. We sort of appear as if we are criminals. Why are we criminals? There’s a media industry out there that wants to criminalise innocent and open hearted and open minded Muslims. They make profits out of this. They ayah in surah Al Waqi’ah is so correct in describing these type of liars.
Now you have made a living out of lying. (Surah Al Waqi’ah verse 82)
They are making their living out of their lies pertaining to innocent us. What have we done? What’s wrong? You tell us- what has the Muslim done wrong? But this is in the nature of things. When Allah’s final Prophet came to that structure and its occupants and adherents, (it) was them the same thing. They began to fabricate lies against him- Oh he’s a sorcerer, or he’s one of these clever clergymen, or he’s just a looney or he’s just out of his mind. All this comes our way via the Qur’an. This is nothing new. They said, and Allah deflects this accusation. (When there’s) anyone who stands for the truth then accusations come at him from all directions. Now, the ayaat of the Qur’an- you and we read these ayaat (and) we hope we can understand them in our world- there are some ayaat that we pose (or) we present to those who suffer from psychological inabilities. Allah says in Surah At Tawbah
They want to extinguish Allah’s light with their words (or) with their mouths (or) with their choice of words (or) with their language (or) with their propaganda (or) with their public relations (or) with their media… (Surah At Tawbah verse 32)
This is how they go about trying to dim Allah’s words.
… but Allah resists and Allah insists on completing His light (or) on finishing the extent of His light… (Surah At Tawbah verse 32)
Now we ask you brothers and sisters: who are these? The Qur’an is speaking about whom? Is the Qur’an speaking about only those who were in the time of Allah’s Prophet or is it speaking about real people in today’s world? If there are Muslims, Mu’mins, committed Muslims in the character of Allah’s Prophet, there’s always going to be a reaction to that regardless of the timeframe in human history. It doesn’t matter- thousands of years ago or thousands of seconds ago or thousands into the future- it doesn’t matter. Whenever that character is present, those reactions are going to be present. If they are present, Allah is speaking to us regardless of the timeframes that we are located in this continuum of this struggle, then who are they- you ask yourself! Do you need us to ask you?! You ask yourself when you are reading Allah’s words- who are they? Who are these who want Allah’s words extinguished and put out Allah’s words? Who are they? The other ayah (or) two ayaat in surah As Saff along the same line
It is He Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad peace be upon him) with guidance and the deen of truth, to make it victorious over all other deens even though the Mushrikin hate it. (Surah As Saff verse 9)
Allah wants this task and this responsibility to take its course and to reach (or) arrive at its ultimate objective- this is the way history is moving. But we have some Muslims who will say “look- but there are events that have happened that have brought about the wrath of the world on us.” OK- what do they mean by that? They will say “(take a look at 9-11.” We’re approaching that infamous date. What happened was innocent people were killed and we are told that these innocent people were killed by Muslims therefore the rest of the Muslims i.e. 1.8billion or 2billion Muslims in the world have to be guilty because of what individuals did (by) being coached by the same sources that are accusing us of all of this violence and brutality and bloodshed and terrorism the rest of these words that we here night and day. So these inferiority types of Muslims say “look- we have a bad reputation, we have a bad name. We have to make up for what was done against innocent people.” Well- we didn’t do anything. For anyone who’s drawn in- this is like a trap; it’s a mental and psychological trap. They draw you in and they want you to think and be convinced that those who are responsible (or) are culpable for the crime of 9-11 are Muslims. Tell them with a straight face and with the facts and the truth on your side “ Muslims had nothing to do with that.” If there are criminals in a certain religion that commit a crime, then Islam itself becomes responsible for that? Or the religion, whatever religion that is, becomes responsible for that? So as much as there is a penchant in some individuals to curry favour with the outside camp that is playing right now the judge, the accuser, the sympathetic shelter and all these other roles- we’re not playing any role here. They’re playing all of the roles and we on many fronts are the victims. If you encounter these types of Muslims, you say to them Allah says
Al Yahud and An Nasara are not going to be satisfied with you until you follow their millah (or) until you become one of them in their worldly pursuits, in their worldly view, into their worldly objectives put together into a package of concepts and beliefs ... (Surah Al Baqarah verse 120)
If you enter into that zone, then yes, they will begin to show satisfaction towards you. Al Yahud here doesn’t mean Jews and An Nasara here doesn’t mean Christians. This is another trap that they set out when they take the meanings from the Qur’anic Arabic into the secular English. They want others to say that Al Yahud every time it’s mentioned in the Qur’an means Jews and An Nasara every time it’s mentioned in the Qur’an means Christians. Tell them no! Stop where you are! Enough is enough!” We should be mature enough right now to realize that the word Al Yahud in the Qur’an in certain ayaat and passages refers to the ideological and the political will of those who say “they belong to the Jewish faith” and the word An Nasara in certain ayaat and passages in the Qur’an refers to the ideological and the political will of those who say “they belong to the Christian faith.” In today’s world the words used to describe these two categories of people are Zionists and Imperialists. We don’t know why some Muslims feel unable to explain this and make it clear to their interlocutors- this is what it means. Let’s clear the air on this subject. Then, Allah says, because some uninitiated and inexperienced Muslims think “if we win the favour of these types of people around who are accusing us night and day then we can coexist and live peacefully with them.” Well, they don’t want to coexist and live peacefully with you! Allah says in another ayah in surah Al Baqarah, just as the previous ayah was from surah Al Baqarah,
… they will continue to fight against you until they cause you to retreat from your deen if they, at all, can do that. (Surah Al Baqarah verse 217)
Now how do these people who carry within themselves a low esteem, a lack of confidence, a high expectation of those who are antagonistic towards us (and) a low expectation of our own selves feel when you quote these ayaat to them? Tell them: please, brothers and sisters, by all means we may be wrong but you tell us how do you understand this ayah correctly? So this propagandistic war is a historical one. It goes back to the history of Prophets and it exists today.
They said Al Quran is the mythology of old generations… (Surah Al Furqan verse 5)
… they said the Prophet is being tutored or taught by a human… (Surah An Nahl verse 103)
… they said that the Quran is magic… (Surah As Saff verse 6)
They said its poetry and it is some type of religious litany and all of these things. There’s a long quote here, we will pass that because of the issue of time.
Then we come to post-Prophetic history. If only we could read and understand we realise that there is during the time of what is called “the Crusades”, (that’s their choice of words. We didn’t use it. They have it in their history and we’re just borrowing the word from them. It doesn’t mean we necessarily agree with that characterisation), a propaganda war began. They began saying Nastaghfurullah “Muhammad was savage. Muhammad was an erotic man. Muhammad was a false Prophet.” All of this you will encounter. You see, in the case of Muslims, we Muslims ourselves don’t read our own history. Then when this history is presented to us, it is presented to us by those who are on the opposite side of the issue so who today is going to be reminded when he hears today’s propaganda against the Qur’an and against the Prophet and against Islam and against the committed Muslims (and) is it going to immediately occur to your mind that the same things were said a thousand years ago in preparation for and in pursuit of those wars to occupy the Holy Lands the first time? No! It doesn’t occur because it’s not there. And those who read literature Dante and The Divine Tragedy- what do they say about our Prophet and humanity’s Prophet? Ugly things. Unspeakable things. So from this they make the leap and say “somehow there is an organic relationship between Islam and terror and violence” and they try to brainwash everyone including the Muslims into believing “Islam generates violence or Islam breeds terrorism.” Lies! Lies! You can remember- just seven years ago in your lifetime what are they. They ran this campaign of cartoons in Europe about the Prophet with a head-dress and a bomb in it and some other nasty and ugly comments pertaining to the Prophet and the Qur’an and Islam. They said that “these Masajid that are in Europe that have these Minarets to them were missiles waiting to be launched.” One of the foremost so called “scholars on Islam” who used to advice the Vice-President during those years after September eleventh said “Islamic morality is different from Judeo-Christian morality.” This is a Yahudi scholar who is advising Nasrani politicians about what Islam is. We ask this big wig of scholarship what is it in Islamic morality that is sub or below Judeo/Christian morality? By the way, this Yahudi professor’s is Bernhard Lewis. Margret Thatcher comes and says “even the Muslims who condemn 9/11 should be held responsible for the crime of 9/11.” Another so called prominent figure of religion in the United States says “Islam promotes violence.” He ran for President of the United States back in the 1980’s- Pat Robertson. Brothers and sisters- to make a long discourse shorter, Islam you know and we know and anyone who reads the open accessible Qur’an with an enlightened heart and mind knows that there’s no such thing as “Islamic terrorism and Islamic violence” or this whole phobia that has been manufactured about Islam in these years. No such thing. Yes- Muslims are required to fight, but that doesn’t make them terrorists (and) that doesn’t make them savages. Another ayah from surah Al Baqarah
And you fight on a course and for a cause for Allah those who are fighting you; and you don’t launch into aggression against others, Allah doesn’t like aggressors. (Surah Al Baqarah verse 190)
The whole issue of jihad and qital in Islam can be summarised in two points: when do Muslims fight? To protect themselves or to support those who are being oppressed- that’s all. The whole subject matter can be boiled down to these two points (i.e.) self protection and supporting those who are oppressed- that’s all.
Then they talk about the wars. In the beginning of Islamic history there were the ghazawaat and the saraya. These were the military efforts of the Muslims. OK- let’s take these by the numbers. Please listen to this because you’re going to encounter contrarians who will argue their lies to convince you other wise, but the numbers speak for themselves- (in) all of these sarayas and all of these ghazawaat of the Prophet, what were the total fatalities (i.e.) the people who were killed during the ten years when the Prophet was in Al Madinah? The total number was three-hundred-and-eighty-six killed on both sides. Three-hundred-and-eighty-six Muslims and Mushriks killed (in) total. This is what they are referring to as “the religion of war and bloodshed” and all of these. Three-hundred-and-eighty-six people killed in ten years. One-hundred-and-eighty-three of them where Muslims and two-hundred-and-three of them were Mushriks. Compare that with only one instance in their history. These Zionists and Imperialists who want to give us a bad name and say we are trigger-happy and blood thirsty, (and all apologies to the sincere Protestants and Catholics who may listen to this Khutbah), in the Protestant/Catholic wars in Europe that erupted after the Protestants broke from the Church in Rome the numbers of casualties in Central Europe was ten-million. Now, you tell us who is violent? Who is terroristic? Who is blood thirsty? At the time, that’s about forty-percent of the population of Central Europe! But what do you do when you have Muslims who are incapable of thinking for themselves and they turn around and they say “we have to be apologetic and we have to explain ourselves in a way that does not incriminate us.” No one should ever feel incriminated by being a subject of Allah who works the will of Allah in this world.
Dear brothers and sisters, committed Muslims…
As you may have realised from the khutbah that one of the major rationalisations for this combination of Zionists and Imperialists intrigue and animosity all the way to the declaration of war against the Muslims, (all of this is happening; we don’t need to remind you of where these wars are going on, it’s day to day information), is by saying “ Muslims by their very nature deserve it. They bring it upon themselves because they are violent prone and they are that way because of their Holy Book and their Holy Prophet.” We know we are not violent prone. We know what they are saying is not the truth but then we come and we have in some quarters some individuals in the Muslim realm who give credibility to what they say when they come and they finance and they offer weapons to killers and murderers who have now taken an Islamic camouflage to themselves and they say look “didn’t we tell you that the Muslims are like that?!” When we trace this, the source of these types of armed individuals, we see it goes back to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is the pet project of the United States of America- government and officials. So Saudi Arabia and what it is doing to this world is offering an argument to those who are saying “ Muslims are terrorists.” (It’s) as if the Zionists and the Imperialists needed a catalyst and that catalyst is the Saudi regime and it’s doing wonders in today’s world with the money that it has- and from both sides the Muslims are being entrapped and placed in a position in which they don’t belong. But speaking to the Muslims around and interacting with the Muslims around they are incapable of responding to an argument with a more efficient, a more factual and a more accurate counter-argument. This is how they want us to remain! These Masajid are not built (and) are not meant to move your minds. They want you to enter the Masjid and leave the Masjid without any mental activity so that an FBI agent or a Saudi brainwashed Salafi can come along and serve the main purpose i.e. to fabricate a terrorist person out of what otherwise would have been a Muslim who should have known better.
