Hadiths that are legitimizing the Abbasid Dynasty

Bismillah Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Raheem.

Alhumdulillah. Peace and blessings on Muhammad (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam), his Noble Companions and Family.

Committed Muslims, brothers and sisters…

The first part of this ayah says:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ

Allah demands (or) He insists on (or) He requires justice… (Surah An Nahl verse 90)

We’ve been trying to do justice to the issue of hadith. This is an area that has not been approached by those who qualify to approach it. In the previous khutbahs we spoke about how the Umawi dynasty contrived hadiths to serve its own purposes and to try to convince people of its legitimacy which it did not have; but this did not stop there. We go from the contrived hadiths of Bani Umayyah to the contrived hadiths of Bani Al Abbas. Here were going to quote for you because some people elevate the hadiths beyond the Qur’an. Remember, we are all subject to the correct and authentic hadiths. These are not khutbahs that are diminishing the value of hadiths; these are khutbahs that are meant to weed out the contrived and fabricated hadiths.

One of the narrators, Al Bazz’aar narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet said to Al Abbas, his uncle

فيكم الخلافة و المملكة (جاء في كتاب الدلئل و الكامل)

Within you, meaning the Children of Al Abbas, (the Prophet’s uncle), shall be the Khilafah and the Mamlakah. We don’t have time here to take issue with the word Mamlakah but this is what is mentioned in this forged hadith. The same hadith was presented to us by Abu Nu’aim in his book Ad Dala’il and ibn Adi in his book Al Kamil. Ibn Asakir had the same hadith but with an extra word. He says Prophet said to Al Abbas

فيكم المولوك و فيكم المملكة (جاء في كتاب بن اساكر)

Another one of these inaccurate and fraudulent hadiths. At Tirmidhi narrated on the authority of ibn Abbas that the Messenger of Allah expressed a du’a to Al Abbas, his uncle (and) he said

و اجعل الخلافة باقية في عقبه (جاء في كتاب سنن الترمذي)

And have the Khilafah continue in his, (meaning Al Abbas, the Prophet’s uncle’s), progeny.

And At Tabaraani, another narrator narrating from the Prophet said

الخلافة في ولد عمي و سلب بي حتى يصدمواها الى المسيح (جاء في كتاب الطبرا نى)

The Khilafah will continue in the children of my uncle who is the counterpart of my father until they turn it, meaning the Khilafah, over to the Messiah. This is supposed to be a hadith?!

Another supposed hadith- the narrator here is Imam Ahmad on the authority of Abi Sa’id Al Khudri that the Prophet said

يخرج رجل من اهل بيتي عند انقطع الزمان و ظهور القتن يقال له : السفاح (جاء في كتاب المسند احمد)

There’s a man who will emerge from the folks of my family at the end of time and at the beginning of sedition- he’s going to be know as “the butcher.” This is in reference to one of the first Abbasi rulers. Of course, that wasn’t the end of time and it wasn’t the beginning of the fitan but it passes as a hadith?!

We get feedback from some places around the world that say “they want sources. Where does this information come from?” They have all the right in the world to ask. There’s a book called Tarikh Al Khulafa’, The History of the Khalifahs by As Suyuti. He has this in his book and this is in reference to Mutawakkil who was one of the Abbasi rulers. He said

اظهر الميل الى السنة و نصر اهلها و استخدم المحدثين الى سامررئ و اجزء اتياهم و اكرمهم و امرهم ان يحدثوا باحاديث الصفات و الرعيا و توفر الدعاء من الخلق لالمتوكل و باله لثناء عليه و تعظيم له حتى قال قائلهم الخلفاء ثلاثة : ابو بكر الصديق في قتل اهل الردة و عمر بن عبد العزيز في رد المظالم و المتوكل في احيء السنة و امات التجحد (جاء في كتاب المسند احمد و تاريخ الخلفاء)

He was intended towards supporting the Sunnah and he gave them help and assistance; he brought those who narrated the hadith to the city in Iraq called Samarra’. He was generous in providing them with prizes and bonuses. He also honored them and he ordered them to go public and to express and to communicate the hadiths that have to do with the descriptions or the attributes, of Allah and whether Allah can be seen or not seen by the human eye on the day or after the day of Judgment. Many people began saying du’a to this Mutawakkil/ruler and they exaggerated praises for him until what was said is we only have three Khalifahs: Abu Bakr As Siddique as he took on and eliminated the People of Riddah and Umar ibn Abd Al Aziz as he addressed injustices and Al Mutawakkil in his efforts to revive the Sunnah. There are so many loopholes in these hadiths so these political divisions, the madh’habi divisions (and) the geographic divisions continued as this was the mental atmosphere of the day, (i.e.) the nationalism and the counter-nationalism (i.e.) Arabian Nationalism and other Nationalisms against it. Bani Al Abbas stood for the reaction against the Arabian nationalism of the Umawis to such an extent that the word Arab was omitted from all of their official records.

Then came the role of the Turks and they had, (as you well know) the developing Ottoman State but the divisions among the Muslims continue. The Turks/Ottomans came to power lo and behold and we had another phenomenon developing. When Mu’tasim- another one of these kings of Bani Al Abbas, not a Khalifah- was the ruler, his mother was a Turk, what did he do? He favored them. He brought them into Baghdad. In some of these books they crowded out Baghdad. Baghdad seemed to be more of a Turkish city than anything else at one time and people began to complain (that) there’s not good neighborliness, there’s not cross-cultural communication, etc. So now we find some hadiths attributed to the Prophet that condemned the Turks. One of these is

ان الترك اول من يصلب امتي ما خولوا (جاء في كتاب تاريخ الخلفاء)

The Turks are going to be the first to take away what my Ummah was given.

On the authority of ibn Abbas

ليكونن ملك او الخلافة في الولدي حتى يغلبهم على عزهم الحمر الوجوح (جاء في كتاب تاريخ الخلفاء)

The Monarchy or the Khilafah shall be in my descendants until they are overcome by those who have reddish faces. Just by that one word being in hadiths makes the hadith questionable. Someone was (also) smart enough to add the word Khilafah to try to market the hadith. They’re saying the Prophet is saying this.

Then another hadith from Abu Hurayrah

لا تقوموا الساعة حتى يجيع قوم اراد وجوح صغار اعين فطصل انف حتى يربطوا خيولهم بشاطئ الدجلا (جاء في كتاب تاريخ الخلفاء)

The final hour will not arrive until people appear who will have wide faces, their eyes are going to be small or tight, they have flat noses. They will continue until they tie their horses on the shores of the river Dajla in Iraq. Just by that one word being in hadiths makes the hadith questionable. Someone was (also) smart enough to add the word Khilafah to try to market the hadith. They’re saying the Prophet is saying this.

These hadiths go on and on and no one up until today has made a sincere, sustained and transparent effort to filter all of this body of hadiths from this type of alien statements. For those who still want more, refer to the book Tarikh Al Khulafa’ by As Suyuti.

The least justice is the expression of the truth especially when this truth exposes those who fabricate the hadiths and leave us with the problems that we are living with today.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ

If we bring this ayah into today’s world, how are we going to have justice when we can’t speak about justice? How do we expect to have a just government or just rulers if we cannot point to those who are not just, (i.e.) rulers of injustice, oppressors, offenders, violators of Allah’s Book and His Prophet’s teachings? How can this be? Today in the Haram in Makkah, the Imam in that Haram who’s called a “Doctor and a Shaykh” is speaking about his kingdom being targeted. He says “there’s a conspiracy against his kingdom and he called on all Muslim governments to come to the support of his kingdom.” (Take a) look- he calls on governments; how about the people? And he says “the affairs of this Ummah cannot be given to an ignorant person or a foolish person or a treacherous person.” We agree with that! But who are the fools? Who are the ignorant? Who are the traitors of this Ummah? He can’t even look and see that in his own country his words fit his own rulers?! And he says “Saudi Arabia is the heart of Ahl As Sunnah wa Al Jama’ah.” It looks like he and his likes have been stung by other Muslims who are not minorities, who are not relics of the past, who are not people of bid’ah, i.e. they are “Sunnis” and they consider this Arabian regime to be outside the pale of Islam. He says in a quote from Imam Malik “the only way the end of this Ummah is going to get its act correct is the same way that the beginning of this Ummah got its act correct.” He’s saying words we can’t disagree with. The Prophet’s time was a time that was correct; the forty years after the Prophet’s hijrah, with its ups and downs more or less can be included in this statement but are you going to mean the beginning of this Ummah extends all the way to the Umawis, to the Abbasis, to Bani Saud in Arabia? Is this the beginning of the Ummah? He says this with a loud speaker, with international broadcasting so it can make its rounds around the world. How can we have justice if we can’t speak about injustice? For the first time this past week the Saudi regime has confessed to a war crime in Yemen.

For the first time in this past week the Saudi regime confessed that it was on a course of bankruptcy within three years. One of their officials appeared on one of their satellite TV stations, NBC, and he said “if these austerity measures in Arabia were not taken the Kingdom would have been bankrupt in three years.” Whether these measures were taken or not taken the Kingdom is definitely going to be bankrupt.

Today, the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates goes to Saudi Arabia, big brother, and with him a high delegation of military personnel. The number two nation state participating in the war against Yemen is the United Arab Emirates. It has 30 war planes in addition to the 100 war planes that the Saudis have that they are sending on bombing missions into Yemen. What is this about? We don’t know! Criminals meet (then) criminals disperse and in the final analysis justice will be done.

In this past week also there was an execution of one of the Saudi Princes. One of the Emirs was executed. This fact took place (but) this fact was not presented in an accurate way. The Saudi regime wanted to present it as a matter of justice or justice taking its course. The details are kept away from the public. This Emir (or) this Saudi Prince killed shot to death one of his friends four years ago. Number one- if justice is going to be done why does it take four years for justice to be done? If someone was not an Emir would it have taken four years to have the person beheaded execution style in Saudi Arabia, (that’s number one). Number two- he shot his friend while he was drunk. This brings up a serious fiqhi issue of whether you can hold a person accountable for committing a crime when he is not in full possession of his senses, as was the case in this instance.

Then there is another thing that is irritating the rulers in Arabia (and) that is the appearance of the pictures of Imam Khamanei in Cairo, Egypt. They are in their social media, in their private discussions, among themselves very troubled by this type of development. Let them be troubled- as they should be! This means that this is a very positive development and it should increase.

Then, finally, that teensy-weensy government in Bahrain under the tutelage of the Saudis accepted to host the FIFA conference or congress when Malaysia rejected it simply because the Israelis are going to participate in it. This goes to show you how submissive and how contrary these regimes are to justice and they have to be exposed- come what may!
