Another grim anniversary of the never-ending Nakba of Palestinians

Palestinians, their friends and supporters worldwide commemorated Nakba day on May 15.

There were seminars, rallies and other activities to remind the world that the struggle for Palestinian freedom is alive and well.

Nakba is not merely one day in the yearly calendar.

It is a reminder of the catastrophe that befell the Palestinian people 78 years ago.

It is an ongoing tragedy that with time has become more intense and oppressive.

Commemorating Nakba day is an affirmation of the Palestinians’ just struggle for liberation and freedom from occupation and barbarism.

It is a reminder that the spirit of resistance, despite the numerous challenges, is alive and determined to continue the struggle for a dignified existence.

Nakba in May 1948 merely marked the beginning of the theft of Palestinians’ land and their ethnic cleansing.

The Israeli military and heavily-armed zionists thugs rampaged through Palestinian towns and villages.

Thousands were brutally murdered and between 750,000 to 1,000,000 Palestinians driven from their homes.

More than 400 Palestinian villages were wiped out.

It marked a prelude to the establishment of the illegal zionist entity on the land of the Palestinians in 1948.

As Palestinians have said for years, the Nakba never ended.

For 78 years, Palestinians have lived with the ongoing ramifications of zionist settler colonialism, manifested through illegal occupation, apartheid and genocide.

The Nakba commemorates the displacement, uprooting, massacres, zionist settler-colonialism, and attempts to erase Palestine from history, geography, and consciousness.

What the Palestinian resistance has shown is that the will of free peoples is stronger than all the missiles, planes, bombs, tanks and drones in the US-zionist arsenal.

Despite the massacres, siege, wars, displacement and imprisonment where rape is rampant, the Palestinians remain unbowed.

Zionist atrocities have intensified but the western ruling elites have deliberately overlooked.

The Palestinians, however, refuse to surrender to zionist barbarism and racism or accept the implantation of the settler colonial entity on their land.

The glorious Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023 was a clear expression of this historical truth and of the deeply rooted spirit of resistance of the Palestinian people.

The Day of Palestinian Struggle, May 15, is not merely an occasion to commemorate the ongoing Nakba.

It is a day to renew the commitment to Palestine, from the river to the sea, to the right of return for Palestinian refugees, and to the choice of comprehensive resistance as the natural path in confronting the zionist colonial project backed by US imperialism and European colonialism.

Intifadah (uprising) is the only choice left to the Palestinian people in confronting and defeating this racist zionist monstrocity.

The challenges facing the Islamic movement in Palestinians are many.

From the US-zionist war criminals to the collaborators in the so-called Palestinian Authority (PA), they have to fight on multiple fronts.

Add to that the treachery of the Arabian dictators who are also full partners in the US-zionist genocidal onslaught on the Palestinian people.

The plight of the Palestinians in Gaza facing more than two and a half years of genocide, starvation and disease, would not have been possible without the collaboration of the Arabian dictators.

Like the collective west, they are also complicit in war crimes against the Palestinians.

Since the Oslo accords of 1993, Palestinian collaborators have seized control of all decision-making, monopolized representation, and suffocated the spirit of the Palestinian cause.

Their very existence is meant to undermine the spirit of resistance by creating paralysis and divisions, that will lead, it is hoped, to total surrender.

This treacherous elite in bribed and kept in power by the very forces that want to erase Palestinian existence and identity.

For the Islamic movement in Palestine—Hamas and Islamic Jihad—the challenge is doubly difficult.

Should they fight the external enemies or concentrate on first eliminating the internal enemies?

Despite the serious risks, the Islamic movemet has opted to fight the external enemies.

This approach has avoided internal conflicts that would have sapped their energies.

The road ahead is not easy but the struggle for freedom and dignity has never been easy.

It demands sacrifices and the Palestinians have shown that they are prepared to pay that price.
