There are growing calls in the US—both in Congress as well as the media including the Washington Post—to remove Donald Trump from office because he is “mentally unfit” to govern.

Section 4 of the 25th amendment of the US constitution allows for such a step.

Some members of Congress including Representative Ilhan Omar have called for Trump’s impeachment.

All Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee signed a letter to Vice President Mike Pence to convene a cabinet meeting and declare Trump unfit.

“President Trump revealed that he is not mentally sound and is still unable to process and accept the results of the 2020 election,” they wrote in the letter.

The Judiciary Committee also called on Pence to take over as president in the remaining days of this regime.

They fear Trump would cause more damage to US interests and to what they call “democracy”.

Legal and political experts, however, are skeptical that this could be carried out.
