EU’s “anti-Israel” theatrics do not fool Palestinian strugglers

Calls by parliamentarians in Belgium, Netherlands and the UK to consider sanctions against Israel if it goes ahead with the annexation of large parts of the occupied Palestinian West Bank should not be viewed as a political setback for Israel.

The Zionist entity does not care about such votes and laws.

The latest votes are merely a psychological and public relations setback for Israel.

The UK did not formally hold a non-binding vote against Israeli annexation plans; Belgium and Netherlands did.

According to middleeastmonitor.com, in Belgium the 150-member House of Representatives voted “with 101 affirmative votes, 39 abstentions and zero votes against it.”

In analyzing current events, people often get manipulated by news headlines and over-emphasize certain events and actions.

The political impact of the latest votes in Europe, therefore, should not be exaggerated or underestimated.

It should be assessed realistically.

Zionist Israel is an entity that regularly disregards UN resolutions and knows that votes have no practical effect so long as NATO regimes are committed to Palestine’s occupation ideologically and politically.

In 2018, Israel was the most condemned entity in the UN yet it changed nothing.

Analyzing anti-Israeli vote by Western institutions in a sensationalist manner paints a false picture of political success in liberating Palestine.

This is a disservice to the Palestinians and the broader global public. It creates false hope and an illusion of objectivity on Palestine supposedly practiced by some Western regimes.

European regimes provide a political buffer to deflect real pressure on Israel where and when it matters.

The EU does it in a lot less obvious manner in order to secure themselves an image of an honest broker among the Muslim masses.

Such image allows the EU to implement its neo-colonialist agenda in West Asia in a subtle manner.

One of the recent practical and less obvious pro-occupation steps the EU took was a $170 million loan by the European Investment Bank to Israel.

On June 18, prominent Palestinian news portal, electronicintifada.net reported that “Sweden – which enjoys an undeserved reputation for holding Israel accountable – is funding a new initiative to encourage business with Israel’s hi-tech startups – a sector inextricably linked to its cyberwarfare and surveillance industry.”

Basic overview of EU’s practical pro-Zionist policies clearly shows that the top echelons of power will not take any practical anti-occupation steps.

However, the latest votes in Belgium and Netherlands should not be underestimated either.

They manifest a reality that the global public opinion is turning against Israel and public policy steps against the Zionist occupation of Palestine are becoming an acceptable political norm in many parts of the world.

It should also be kept in mind that the votes and resolutions theatrics have little impact on how the Arab masses approach their approach to ending Zionist occupation.

The votes and resolutions are relevant primarily for external consumption. The Arab masses know well that the two patches of land liberated from the Zionists—Gaza and South Lebanon—were achieved through UN-recognized process of resistance.
