Exceptionalism is a disease that affects many people and countries. Your article on exceptionalism (January 2020) discussed the various claimants to it with the US leading the pack. It springs from the mistaken notion of one’s own superiority over others. This is what causes turmoil in the world. At its root, it is racism. Based on man-made rules and ideas, some claim superiority over others. Can the color of one’s skin, or wealth or even birth confer superiority on someone and why? Unless we all recognize that all human beings are created equal, we will continue to have trouble in the world.
