More than 100 people were burnt alive when Israel bombed a supposed safe area in Rafah

After months of dragging its feet amid relentless bombardment of Gaza, the zionist entity has finally agreed to a ceasefire with the Islamic resistance today (January 15).

The ceasefire will go into effect on Sunday January 19, according to Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Why the delay in implenting the ceasefire agreement was not explained.

Under the terms, the phased agreement will include the zionists releasing 1,000 Palestinian prisoners kidnapped from their homes in exchange for 33 Israelis taken captive on October 7, 2023.

Contrary to western and Israeli media depictions that are repeated parrot-fashion by western regimes, these are not hostages.

They are prisoners of war.

The real hostages are the Palestinians who were grabbed from their homes, often in the middle of the night, and thrown in Israeli prisons.

These prisoners have suffered physical and sexual abuse.

Scores have died under torture.

It is revealing that Israel rejected a request from Pramila Patten, the UN special representative of the secretary-general on sexual violence in conflict, to investigate the allegations against Hamas after she established that a necessary condition would be access to Israeli detention centers to probe claims against Israeli soldiers.

This was reported by the Israeli daily Haaretz.

In Israel’s relentless bombing of the Gaza Strip, many Israeli prisoners have also been killed.

Even while indirect talks facilitated by Qatar and US representatives were underway in Doha, the zionists continued to bomb Gaza.

Earlier today (Wednesday January 15), Israeli forces stepped up attacks on Gaza, bombing a school-turned-shelter and several homes across the Strip.

Another 62 people, among them children, were slaughtered in the 24-hour period.

Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 46,707 Palestinians and wounded 110,265 since October 7, 2023.

These figures are grossly under-reported.

The actual death toll is much higher, as a number of other studies, such as the British

Medical Journal, The Lancet have reported.

It is also evident that over the next four days, the Israeli air force will continue to bomb the already-destroyed Gaza Strip and kill more innocent Palestinian civilians.

“The killing of children must stop,” said UNICEF in a statement as hopes emerged of a ceasefire agreement.

It said that at least 200 children have been killed in last 15 days.

While the slaughter of Palestinians continues, let us examine what the details of the Gaza ceasefire agreement are.

Al Mayadeen, the Lebanese news portal, reported that it has obtained details of the Gaza ceasefire agreement between the parties.

It contains eleven-clauses, and if implemented fully would bring an end to the zionist genocide in Gaza and the West Bank as well as begin to address the catastrophic humanitarian disaster inflicted by the zionists on the defenceless Palestinians.

Key terms of the agreement

  1. Israeli forces are required to fully withdraw from all areas of the Gaza Strip and return to the pre-war borders.
  2. The Rafah crossing must be reopened, with Israeli forces withdrawing entirely from the area.
  3. Israel is mandated to ease the travel of injured individuals for treatment abroad.
  4. Israel must permit the daily entry of 600 aid trucks, as per a humanitarian protocol backed by Qatar.
  5. Israel must facilitate the entry of 200,000 tents and 60,000 caravans for immediate shelter.
  6. A large-scale prisoner exchange will occur, including the release of 1,000 prisoners from Gaza and hundreds of detainees serving lengthy sentences.
  7. Israel is to release all women and children under the age of 19 from its prisons.
  8. Israeli forces must gradually withdraw from the Netzarim corridor and the Philadelphi Route.
  9. Displaced [Palestinian] residents must be allowed to return to their homes, with guaranteed freedom of movement throughout the Gaza Strip.
  10. Hostile aircraft must vacate Gaza's airspace for 8 to 10 hours daily.
  11. All hospitals in Gaza must be rehabilitated. Field hospitals, medical equipment, and surgical teams must be permitted entry.

There is universal desire for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to bring an end to the suffering of the Palestinians.

Given the criminal nature of the zionists, it would be unrealistic to place too much hope in the latest announcement.

After all, a ceasefire went into effect on November 27 between the zionist entity and Hizbullah but the zionists have continued to violate it on a daily basis.

Further, it is almost certain that once Israeli prisoners are released, the zionist war criminals will resume their barbaric attacks on the Palestinians.

The US and other western regimes are complicit in zionist war crimes.
