As India’s coronavirus cases surge past the one million mark, making it the third most infected country in the world, Indians are consumed by the news of the Bachchan family’s infections.
Celebrity culture plays a big part in Indians’ lives.
This is not surprising since life in general is pretty grim for the overwhelming majority in caste-ridden India.
The latest Bachchan family member to test positive is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, wife of Abhishek.
The Bollywood actress has been admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital, ANI agency reports.
Her eight-year-old daughter Aaradhya has also tested positive and is in hospital, PTI agency says in its report.
Aishwarya’s husband Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, have been hospitalized since July 11.
Amitabh Bachchan is 77 and well past his prime.
He is extremely prejudiced whose insulting conduct was on full display during one TV episode that he managed.
Called ‘Kon banay ga Crore-pati’ (Who will become a millionaire?), a young man from the Dalit community was brought to the show by his patron.
Contrary to Bachchan’s habit of shaking hands with guests appearing on his show, he refused to shake the young Dalit’s hand even though he, in his innocence, had stretched it out to the Bollywood star.
Amitabh Bachchan is also a huge fan of Narendra Modi with whom he has appeared in many photographs.

Our recommendation to the Hindu fundamentalist Bachchan family is to not waste money on hospital fees.
Instead, drink cow urine and take a dip in cow dung broth!
After all, nearly a billion Hindu fascists cannot be wrong, can they?
And if this does not work and the Bachchans go to the other side, we are prepared to contribute toward the purchase of wood and oil to fry them on the funeral pyre.
The 200-million Dalits, long oppressed in India, would not miss them. Nor for that matter would much of the rest of the world.
In the age of Black lives matter, Dalit lives also matter.
