In retaliation for US terrorist attacks on its infrastructure in the early hours of June 10, Iran launched missile and drone strikes on American bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping, commercial and oil tankers.
There was an immediate surge in oil prices as the Hormuz blockade took effect.
The IRGC announced that its forces struck two vessels attempting to pass through the closed strait.
Meanwhile, its Aerospace and Navy forces carried out strikes against 18 US installations in the region.
The US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, the Ali al-Salem military base in Kuwait, and Al-Azraq base in Jordan were all struck.
While the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain is frequently targeted which has suffered considerable degradation, it was the strike at the hangar at Al-Azraq base in Jordan that was significant this time.
It houses US F-35 fighter jets which sustained major damage with a number of the much-vaunted stealth fighter jets destroyed on the ground.
The US command and control centre at the base was also hit and severely degraded.
Tehran’s retaliation was in response to US attacks on Iranian infrastructure in the south of the country as well as in Karaj, west of Tehran.
In south Iran, two drinking water tanks were hit by US missiles, cutting access to drinking water for about 20,000 civilians.
This constitutes a war crime but the US habitually indulges such illegal acts.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) had the gall to claim its aggression was in “self-defence”.
The US maintains military bases around Iran—there are 19 of them in the region—thousands of miles away from mainland USA.
Under no stretch of the imagination can aggression against Iran be described as “self-defence”.
American and zionist war criminals have committed horrific crimes against the Islamic Republic, the people of Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq.
If the world were governed by laws, they would be hauled before a court and charged with war crimes.
Under the current western-imposed sytem, that is virtually impossible.
It is left to countries like the Islamic Republic to deal with them.
American terrorism is intended to force Iran to submit to US demands.
Experts say that Tehran will never submit to pressure or terrorist acts.
It proved this during the 40-day war in which the US and Israel and their Arabian surrogates were roundly defeated militarily.
Trump is desperate for a deal and wants a face-saving off-ramp.
Iran is not willing to offer him one unless he agrees to Iranian terms.
These can be summarised as follows:
1: Permanent ceasefire on all fronts including Lebanon and Palestine, especially Gaza;
2: Release of at least $12 billion of illegal frozen Iranian assets in advance;
3: Lift all sanctions—primary and secondary—against Iran;
4: Dismantle all US military bases in the region.
5: Pay reparations of $300 billion plus for damage caused to Iran’s civilian infrastructure.
In return for fulfilling these conditions, Iran is prepared to open the Strait of Hormuz but vessels must coordinate passage with the IRGC naval forces.
Iran will not charge transit fees but will levy an “environmental protection” tax.
Iran has said repeatedly that it is not making a bomb.
This is one of the demands repeated ad nauseum by the US and zionist Israel.
Even US intelligence agencies have said that Tehran has no program for making nuclear weapons.
Trump’s demand that Iran’s enriched uranium must be taken out of the country and halt its enrichment program altogether may be a sticking point.
Iran has refused to relinquish its rights under the NPT.
It is willing to dilute its enriched uranium but on its own soil.
Can the two sides’ positions be reconciled?
A Qatari delegation was in Tehran on June 10 and returned to Doha early today.
Sources in Tehran say that it discussed the modalities of transferring $12 billion into Iranian possession so that Trump could claim he did not pay Iran directly!
The Qataris are acting in coordination with the US.
Discussions were also held regarding reparations that Trump wants to call an “International Investment Fund” for Iran.
Tehran is educating Trump step by step—not an easy task—but nonetheless the orange orangutan is getting the message.
Don’t mess with the Iranians, especially those charged with revolutionary zeal.
