By sustaining their campaign against a 700,000-strong army of occupation, the Kashmiris have shown they are not cowed down by oppression and terror. This in itself is their victory.
To be able to sustain a movement for months and years without any identifiable leadership and against a heavily armed enemy is a great achievement. This is what the people of Kashmir have done over several decades against a ruthless enemy like India that maintains 700,000 troops there. These troops and the hundreds of thousands of other armed personnel have perpetrated horrible crimes including war crimes against the Kashmiris but have failed to cow them down. This is a victory for the Kashmiris.
A number of thoughtful Indians have also realized that India has lost Kashmir even if it physically occupies it. The Kashmiris have voted with their feet that they do not wish to be part of India.
