The generally polite Malaysians have had enough.
They did not want the genocide enabler Donald Trump in their country even if the government of Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the convicted felon and sex predator with a dance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in Kuala Lumpur’s Independence Square today (Sunday October 26) to protest Trump’s visit.
The square reverberated with chants of “Free, Free Palestine” that has now become a favourite slogan at rallies throughout the world.
Another group led by the Anti-Trump Secretariat organized a separate demonstration at the Ampang Park area of the city at the same time.
Protest rallies were held throughout the day to denounce Trump’s visit and his unflinching support for Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
Protest organizers had urged the government to not invite Trump to the ASEAN summit.
Unfortunately, the Anwar Ibrahim regime paid no need.
Rally organizers were greatly disappointed because they hoped Ibrahim, who emerged from the Students Islamic Movement in Malaysia (ABIM), would take heed.
Instead, he arranged a lavish reception for Trump at the airport including a traditional Malaysian dance at the tarmac for the orangutan as he stepped out of Air Force One.
Ibrahim and a long lineup of ministers was there to butter up the narcissist-in-chief of America.
On the flight to Kuala Lumpur, Trump had called Anwar “a very good man”.
That could be the kiss of death for any politician.
Recall what Ibrahim had said at the Doha Summit in Qatar on September 15, after zionist Israel attacked senior Hamas leaders meeting to discuss the US-proposed ceasefire plan for Gaza.
Here is what Ibrahim said:
“Our people have become wary of words. They have watched us issue condemnation after condemnation, declaration after declaration, while Israel escalates with impunity, as future generations will ask whether we found the courage to act. We do not ask nations to go beyond their basic obligations,” he said.
“Condemnations will not stop the missiles. Declarations will not free Palestine. Severe, punitive actions must be put in place. Diplomatic engagements must cease, and so must relations with Israel,” he added.
Nice words but where is the action Ibrahim himself was advocating in Doha only six weeks earlier?
Instead, his police forces swooped on anti-Trump rally organizers arresting scores of them.
“… police swooped on a convoy of motorcycles waving Palestinian flags, arresting 64 people,” according to the Kuala Lumpur-based MalaysiaNow news portal.
All but two of them were released after a few hours.
It was an attempt by the police to disrupt the anti-Trump protest rallies.
The rallies went ahead.
Leading to the protest rallies, the Inspector General of Police Khalid Ismail had warned the public against organising anti-Trump protests during the Asean Summit to “project an image of a peaceful nation.”
The call sparked outrage on social media.
People challenged the police chief saying those who oppose Trump’s presence in Malaysia are the real patriots who redeem Malaysia’s image.
A coalition of students and activist groups called the Anti-Trump Secretariat held their planned protest at Ampang Park.
“This assembly is a unified declaration that genocide enablers and war criminals are not welcome – not here, not anywhere.
“It is high time that Asean nations take a firmer stance in avoiding all forms of normalisation to weaken US hegemony in the region. As such, the Anti-Trump Secretariat calls upon the masses to stand together in opposition to the greatest threat to humanity in our time,” it said.
While activists, students and people of conscience protested Trump’s visit, Malaysia’s “Islamist” prime minister Anwar Ibrahim joined Trump in a dance at the airport.
So much for his Islamic credentials and high rhetoric.
The people of Malaysia, however, made their sentiment clear.
They rejected the presence of the genocide enabler in their midst.
