While their dignity prevents them from saying so in public, there is a palpable feeling among Palestinians that the Muslim world has betrayed them. After all, of the 57 Muslim nation-states, few have come forward to offer any tangible help. Countries around Palestine—Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE et al—have provided no help whatsoever even as the zionist war criminals continue their genocide of innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank. The cut-up bodies of Palestinian children, badly mangled bodies of women and the elderly are shown on our television screens or the social media yet there is no meaningful action again such barbarism.

The Qur’an says that Muslims are one Ummah (21:92; 23:52). Muslims also often quote the Prophetic hadith that Muslims are like the human body; if one part is hurt, the entire body feels the pain. In Palestine, one part of this body is being cut to pieces but the rest of the body shows virtually no concern. This is not meant to disparage the average Muslim who, wherever he/she may be, is deeply anguished by the plight of the Palestinians. It is the regimes that must be held to account.

Most Muslim rulers have indulged in vacuous rhetoric or appealed to the international community to stop the carnage. The so-called international community is complicit in the zionist- perpetrated genocide in Gaza. Is it realistic to expect them to help?

The Palestinian death toll since October 7, killed by US-supplied Israeli bombs and missiles, has surpassed 20,000. At least 70 percent of the victims are women and children. Killing babies is a favourite pastime of the murderous zionists.

Let us look at US conduct. It has stubbornly refused to support a ceasefire resolution in the UN Security Council despite urgent appeals by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as well as leaders of most other countries in the world, including some American allies like France and Germany. The US as a settler-colonial entity fully supports Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. After all, this is what the European settler colonialists did in North America.

In reality, the US is zionist-occupied territory. While the American Jewish population is around 2.5 percent, almost 90 percent of the cabinet posts are occupied by the zionists. Let us also bear in mind that not all Jews are zionists. In fact, it would be fair to say that the ratio is 50-50. Thus, only about 1.25 percent of the zionist population holds 90 percent of cabinet posts in Joe Biden’s regime. The zionists’ control of America is absolute.

Pat Buchanan, the former speech writer for Ronald Reagan, famously coined the phrase that US Congress is zionist-occupied territory. The entire US government is zionist-occupied territory. Add to that the major banks, media outlets, gambling casinos, Hollywood and many think-tanks, and one can begin to get a picture of the zionist control of America.

When almost every politician in the US is beholden to the Israeli lobby, it is unrealistic to expect the US regime, regardless of who occupies the White House, to say or do anything not approved by Tel Aviv. Washington in fact takes its orders from Tel Aviv. That also explains why the US keeps shovelling billions of dollars annually to the parasitical state of Israel while millions of Americans suffer from poverty, homelessness and lack of medical care.

Let us, however, return to the policies of the Arab/Muslim regimes. Not one of them that has diplomatic relations with the zionist entity, considered it appropriate to break off ties. Compare this to Bolivia, a country in South America, that broke off diplomatic relations with the zionist monstrosity over its criminal attacks against the Palestinian people.

The Arab and Muslim regimes including Turkey, refuse to cut off even trade relations with Israel. They do brisk business with Israel, supplying it oil and other goods even while the latter is busy slaughtering innocent Palestinian babies, children and women. If one were to describe their conduct in one word, it would be called “shameless”.

What should Muslims do to rectify this terrible situation? Ordinary Muslims everywhere have not only expressed anguish at the plight of their Palestinian brothers and sisters by participating in rallies but also donated to charities to provide food, water and medicine to them. These are genuine but desperate acts that do not even touch the surface.

Muslims can take several steps, both short- and long-term. In the short-term, they can continue to exert pressure on their governments to provide tangible help to the Palestinians. The first step would be to push for an immediate ceasefire, immediately flow of humanitarian aid and an end to the zionist occupation of Palestine.

The long-term task, though more difficult, is absolutely essential. Struggle to get rid of these regimes that are the agents of imperialism and zionism. The litmus test for these regimes must be their commitment to the liberation of Palestine.

Every Muslim is aware of Salahuddin Ayyubi’s liberation of Al-Quds/Jerusalem and Palestine from the clutches of the Crusaders in 1187 CE. Before embarking on confronting the Crusaders, he had to liberate the surrounding countries led by nominal Muslims who had aligned themselves with the Crusaders. Today, the so-called Muslim regimes have surrendered to the zionists.

Muslims must internalize this point fully. They must understand that the liberation of countries surrounding Palestine, especially Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, from the clutches of the corrupt tyrants, is essential before liberating Palestine from the zionists. These countries are as much zionist-occupied as is the US and Palestine.
