The hunger strike by Attawapisket Chief, Theresa Spence has drawn attention to the terrible plight of Native Peoples in Canada. A movement has been born and they will settle for nothing less than a fair share in the resources to uplift themselves from poverty and other deprivations.
I congratulate Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence for standing up for the rights of Native People. The movement has started and many people will join, as we have witnessed across Canada and indeed beyond its borders. Imam Husayn gave his life for justice. Native people do not deserve to live in such gross poverty and with so much inequality. There is need for reform in the area of health, education, land and resources. Inshallah they will get it.
