Dr. J.A. Morrow’s article has accurately captured the reality of Muslims in the West (CI, April 2018). We have little power or influence; we are hated because of massive propaganda and hate speech against Muslims. Major social media companies such as Facebook are complicit in this. In Myanmar, Buddhist monks openly called for genocide against Muslims (on Facebook) but the company did nothing to stop this.

We do not have leadership; the concept of a Muslim Ummah is non-existent; it is all about me — me. The ones who project themselves as “moderates” are making it worse for the rest of us. It has taken years to get to this stage. There are a few brave souls that do their best but that is not enough. How do we pull ourselves out of this situation? We need vision and leadership.

We have educated and wealthy Muslims whose money is invested in the West. There are no institutions that can prepare individuals to face the challenges of the new world order. Most want power and fame and are corrupt. Our beautiful din that Allah (swt) gave to us is rarely practiced in its true essence.

Muslims should stop funding organizations abroad; let them deal with their own issues (except in war situations). We must build our communities here.
