The death toll from the terrorist attack at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand has now risen to 50. Among the 39 others that were injured, 11 are in the Intensive Care Unit. There are two children--a 2-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl--that are reported in critical condition.

Other heart-breaking stories have emerged. A Bangladeshi woman, 42-year-old Husna Ara Parveen tried to shield her wheelchair bound husband Fareeduddin Ahmed, only to die in a hail of bullets.

At least 9 people of Pakistani origin are among those killed. Father and son Rashid Naeem and Talha were also killed. Rashid Naeem tried to tackle the terrorist in Al Noor Mosque only to be gunned down.

Australian Senator Fraser Anning meanwhile blamed Muslim extremists that have flooded into Australia and New Zealand for the murderous rampage.

Anning is a racist and bigot and completely ignorant.

Muslims make less than one percent of New Zealand's population and the terrorist that shot and killed worshippers at the two mosques: Al Noor Mosque in Central Christchurch and a suburban mosque in Linwood, has been identified as 28-year-old Australian Brenton Tarrant.

He even made a video of his murderous rampage as he shot and killed worshippers gathered for Jumah (Friday) prayers. Among the dead are women and children.

Tarrant had started purchasing semi-automatic weapons since 2017 when he obtained a license.

He is a self-confessed admirer of the Norwegian terrorist Anders Breivik as well as Serbian mass murderers like Radovan Karadic and others of his ilk.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand described the incident as a terrorist attack and one of the country’s “darkest days”.

The terrorist has been arrested and made a brief appearance in court on Saturday March 16. He has been held without bail and will re-appear in court on April 5.

Three other people—two men and a woman—were also detained nearby and firearms seized from them although the police said one was later released.

Police sources in Christchurch said they had also recovered explosive devices from a car belonging to one of the suspects. Other reports say that explosives were set up in Al Noor Mosque front entrance and it was blown up.

The Australian Brenton Tarrant, who was charged with the worst mass murder in New Zealand’s history, appeared to have published a 74-page manifesto about his racist views before the attack.

In it, he outlined his intentions, identifying himself as a 28-year-old Australian citizen. He espoused far right sentiment and extreme hatred toward immigrants, especially Muslims.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison described Tarrant as an “extremist, right-wing” terrorist. He was fitness trainer at a gym and had moved to New Zealand for the express purpose of carrying out the attack.

As the full extent of this latest horrific terrorist attack against Muslim worshippers sinks in, it needs to be borne in mind that such incidents do not occur in a vacuum.

There is an entire industry of Islamophobes targeting Muslims in Western countries. It is done under the rubric of free speech.

The Islamophobes include white supremacists as well as Zionist groups and individuals.

Attacks on mosques and Muslim businesses have skyrocketed in recent years following the 911 attacks and especially since the election of Donald Trump as US president.

On January 29, 2017, six Muslims were shot and killed and 29 others injured in a Quebec City mosque.

The attacker, also a 28-year-old white supremacist, Alexandre Bissonnette was influenced by the writings of Pamela Geller (American) and Anders Breivik (Norwegian).

The latter is serving jail term for murdering 77 students in July 2011 in Oslo. Geller is free to espouse her hate-filled Islamophobic rhetoric.

Zionist groups in the US and Canada actively promote and applaud her Islamophobic rhetoric. She has appeared on their platforms on numerous occasions.

According to Canadian police sources, anti-Muslim hate crimes rose by 141 percent from 2016 to 2017. The actual numbers are much higher because many Muslims do not report such incidents preferring anonymity.

While New Zealand Prime Minister Ardern said, “It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack,” it is yet to be seen whether this would lead to any concrete steps against white supremacist and Zionist groups.

There is no evidence that any such action has been taken in Canada where white supremacists and Zionists continue to threaten and intimidate Muslims even while they go to their places of worship. In some instances, like in Christchurch, tens of Muslims are murdered in cold blood.

People like Donald Trump and other racist politicians only add fuel to the raging fire of racism by claiming right wing extremists are a "tiny minority". Even if that is true, the results are horrific.

Fraser Anning, an Australian senator blamed the presence of Muslims for the New Zealand terrorist attacks. In Canada, Andrew Scheer, leader of the right wing Conservative Party while condemning the attack did not refer to the Muslim victims or that it was a terrorist act even though the New Zealand prime minister clearly stated that it was.

Fortunately justice and peace loving groups including Jewish groups like the Independent Jewish Voices and Jewish Voices for Peace in Canada and elsewhere, issued statements condemning the terrorist attacks. They also expressed sympathy with the Muslim victims.

Muslims in Canada and elsewhere have welcomed and appreciated such support and solidarity from peace-loving Jewish groups.

Contrast this with pro-Israeli Zionist groups that are quick to denounce anyone that mentions Israeli crimes against unarmed Palestinians, have maintained a deafening silence.

It reveals their true nature and intent. For them, the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim. They share much in common with the white supremacists.

Unfortunately, attacks like those in New Zealand are likely to continue because Muslims are presented as the bad guys by Western regimes and their pliant media outlets.

This campaign not only enables Western warlords to continue their murderous wars in the Muslim world but also helps prepare the ground for attacks on Muslims living in Western societies.

Islamophobia is a multi-billion dollar industry.

It is open season on Muslims.
