Tens of thousands of people from all walks of life are expected to attend this year’s Quds Day rally in Toronto on July 26. Israel’s brutal war on Gaza has mobilized people and aroused deep concern for the wellbeing of the besieged Palestinian people.

Toronto has the honour of organizing the largest of all Quds day rallies in North America. In the past, if the number was in the thousands, this year it is expected to be in the tens of thousands.

One estimate puts the number of people expected to attend at between 25,000 to 30,000. This number could easily be surpassed since in recent days, huge rallies have been held to protest Zionist Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza that has resulted in nearly 800 deaths, the vast majority of them civilians.

The Zionist invading army has bombed people’s homes, schools, centers for the disabled as well as hospitals. All these constitute war crimes.

The Harper regime in Canada is an unabashed supporter of Zionist crimes and is therefore complicit in these crimes.

The overwhelming majority of Canadians oppose the war on Gaza and have demanded not only an immediate end to Zionist violence against Gaza but also the lifting of the illegal siege imposed on the tiny enclave.

The Toronto Quds Day rally will be attended by Muslims, Christians, Jews and people of other faiths. A number of anti-zionist rabbis also plan to attend the rally. They have been present at such rallies in the past as well, exposing the false allegation of pro-Israeli supporters that the rally is anti-Semitic.

This is the last line of defence of Zionist apologists when they cannot defend the terrible conduct of the Zionist entity.

There is overwhelming sympathy for the besieged Palestinian people. By nature Canadians are decent people; they have a terrible government that reflects the great weaknesses in the political system that allows a regime to be ensconced in power on the basis of a minority vote.

The Harper regime got only 36 percent of the vote in the last election but less than 60 percent of eligible voters bothered to cast ballot. Thus, his real support is a mere 21.6 percent of all eligible voters.

The Quds Day rally is a powerful platform that provides an opportunity for the truth to be highlighted about the Zionist regime.
