Recent announcement by the United States Central Command that it will award 29 Purple Heart medals to soldiers injured during Iran’s retaliatory strikes against US bases in Iraq is another major political and PR screw up by the Donald Trump regime.

On Monday (May 4), the Washington based al-montior.com wrote; “President Donald Trump initially downplayed the injuries as ‘not very serious’… In terms of concussion brain injuries, the US military requires them to have been suffered during action involving an adversary for them to qualify a service member for a Purple Heart. The concussion also must be diagnosed by a medical doctor as severe enough to have required treatment, for the person to have been rendered unconscious or to have been deemed medically unfit for duty for at least 48 hours, the Navy said in 2011.”

The above fact confirms the initial Iranian claim that the US suffered significant casualties during Iran’s retaliatory strikes after General Qassem Soleimani’s assassination on January 3.

Initially, the US denied any casualties after Iran’s strikes, it later admitted 109 military personnel were injured.

Iran’s targeting of US bases was a paradigm shift: a Muslim country destroyed two large US military bases and Washington had to simply accept it.

Such a phenomenon would be unthinkable a year ago.

Right after Iran’s retaliatory strikes, the Western corporate media which by default follows the official narrative of their regimes on strategic geopolitical issues, began playing down the Iranian missile response.

It should also be noted that while the corporate media continues to peddle the narrative that Iran deliberately attempted not to inflict casualties on the US, top Pentagon officials beg to differ.

On January 8 the Business Insider reported that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley admitted that Iran was not only seeking to destroy assets and equipment with its missile strike but also trying to “kill personnel.”

The award of medals will have a significant long-term negative impact on Washington’s propaganda capabilities.

In war, which the US is constantly waging overtly or covertly, believable propaganda is as crucial as battlefield victories.

Thus, future US propaganda ploys will be easier to dismiss and discredit.

The US and most of its NATO allies have demonstrated strong half-truth propaganda skills aided by large sums of money and a large cadre of journalists that peddle Washington’s worldview.

All good propaganda is mostly half-truth or falsehood under the garb of truth, a concept defined in Islamic paradigm as batil.

The latest confirmation by the US of significant casualties sustained during the Iranian counterstrikes is a signal of an empire in decline forced to resort to primitive propaganda methods to gain tactical advantage at any cost ignoring the strategic repercussions.
