by Suzanne Weiss (Letters To The Editor, Crescent International Vol. 49, No. 6, Dhu al-Hijjah, 1441)
As a long-time reader of Crescent International, an activist for Palestinian freedom, and a Jewish Holocaust survivor, I am concerned by the tone and content of Kevin Barrett’s article in your July 1 issue, “Who’s Backing Trump.”
Barrett is right to attack the “billionaire oligarchy that rules America,” for its consistent support of Zionist wars, land seizure, and apartheid in historic Palestine. But his analysis of this oligarchy singles out only Jewish capitalists, whom he presents as part of a global Jewish conspiracy – what he calls the “kosher nostra.”
Regardless of Kevin Barrett’s intentions, this notion of a world dominated by a secret cabal of Jewish financiers is the core belief of Nazism. It anchors the Nazi ideology of racism, white supremacy, and genocide, which targets not only Jews but Muslims, immigrants, and all peoples of colour. It is a danger to us all.
As Crescent International has often pointed out, true friends of Palestine distinguish between Zionism and Judaism. In Toronto, where I live, Crescent supporters chant “Judaism yes, Zionism no.” Crescent’s former editorial board member Zafar Bangash pledged in a major pro-Palestinian rally that “if the Jewish people come under attack, Muslims will stand by their side.”
May this spirit continue to shine brightly in your journal.
