Developments in Palestine are moving in the wrong direction. The Saudi-Zionist alliance is now out in the open. Bani Saud have openly expressed their subservience and capitulation to the US and Israel.
Al-Quds remains under the Zionists’ boots. Committed Muslims worldwide observe al-Quds Day during the last weekend of Ramadan to highlight the occupation of the Muslims’ first qiblah. This year will be no exception and we urge Muslims — and indeed justice-seeking non-Muslims everywhere — to join these rallies.
Further, in Occupied Palestine, hundreds of Palestinians have been on a hunger strike. More than 5,000 Palestinian prisoners languish in Israel’s dungeons, among them women and children. The hunger strikers are demonstrating that while their bodies may be in chains, their spirits are free.
This, however, does not appear to be the case with the Hamas leadership. Last month, the outgoing Hamas political bureau chief, Khaled Meshaal, announced a revised charter for the resistance movement. Two changes are noticeable. Hamas declared itself an Islamic national movement, rather than a branch of al-Ikhwan al Muslimun.
More disturbingly, Hamas has dropped the policy of liberating all of Palestine, settling for a rump Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. This position, adopted by the PLO decades ago, just encouraged Israel to grab more land. Islamic Jihad in Palestine has rejected such capitulation.
Unfortunately, the Hamas leadership has been softened by the corrupt Arabian rulers and misled into this disastrous policy.
