Canadians from all walks of life poured into the streets of Toronto Saturday May 18 to commemorate Nakba Day and denounce ongoing Zionist crimes against the Palestinian people.

The cross-country Day of Action in Solidarity with the Palestinian people also denounced Canadian complicity in Israeli war crimes and apartheid policies.

From Victoria, British Columbia in the West to St. John’s, Newfoundland in the East Canadians marked a Cross Country Day of Action to expose Canadian complicity in Israeli war crimes and the apartheid policies of the Zionist regime in Israel.

Organized by the Canada-wide BDS Coalition (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) the events commemorated 71 years of Nakba (catastrophe). Zionist terrorist gangs led by the Irgun resulted in the expulsion of more than 750,000 Palestinians from their homes.

Hundreds of others were murdered in cold blood, the bloodiest of which was the massacre at the village of Deir Yassin when 254 Palestinian men, women and children very brutally murdered.

Pregnant women were bayoneted to death and their bodies dumped in wells.

The aim was to strike terror in the hearts of ordinary Palestinians and force them to flee.

The Zionist terror campaign has not ended. Seventy-one years later, the Palestinians are still being murdered, today with much more lethal weapons.

Gaza is an open-air prison where 90 % of the water is contaminated; 80% of Gazans are food deficient because of the Zionist imposed siege.

Lack of basic medicines means the sick, the elderly and the wounded cannot be treated.

Zionist snipers using high velocity rifles target Palestinians shattering their bones. Many Palestinian victims lose their limbs because of lack of facilities to treat them.

Often such amputations occur without anaesthesia.

Life in the West Bank is equally grim. Illegal Zionist squatters that number some 500,000 have usurped 90% of West Bank water while 2.8 million Palestinians have to live with only 10% of the remaining water.

Zionists splash in outdoor swimming pools while the Palestinians do not have water even to drink.

There are at least 10,000 Palestinian political prisoners languishing in Israeli prisons, among them women and children.

Children as young as 8 or 9 years old are grabbed by brutish soldiers and dragged to Israeli prisons notorious for abuse.

Children are threatened with physical and sexual abuse. Women are similarly threatened and abused.

While such abuses are widely reported, especially by human rights organizations, cowardly Western rulers ignore these and pander to Zionist whims.

On May 20, for instance, pro-Israeli groups will hold the annual ‘Walk for Israel’ march at which Canadian politicians of all stripes will rub shoulders with supporters of war criminals.

This makes them complicit in Zionist crimes.

It is for this reason that the Canada-wide BDS rallies have assumed such enormous importance.

Such rallies also reflect the sentiments of the vast majority of Canadians as a 2017 EKOS poll showed. Two-thirds of Canadians support sanctions by Canada against Israel because of its ongoing violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
