General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, after declaring himself president through a farcical election in which less than 10 percent of the people bothered to vote, has intensified the reign of terror against enemies—real and perceived. The ever-pliant judges are with him.

The new Egyptian pharaoh, General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has wasted no time in clamping down hard on those that he perceives as potential threat to his illegitimate rule. The Ikhwan al-Muslimoon have been targeted from day one of the military coup in July 2013. El-Sisi knows that the Ikhwan are the only organized group that has the backing of the masses to challenge his illegitimate grab of power. So, in addition to unleashing his armed thugs upon them killing in cold blood innocent people, he has also used the judiciary to send the rest to the gallows after farcical trials.

The Egyptian judicial system has become a laughing stock of the world. Defence lawyers are not allowed to see the charges against clients before they are presented in court. The judges do not even spend five minutes before sentencing hundreds of people to death. What kind of a judicial system is that? If the regime has any case against the defendants, it should present the evidence in court and argue it openly. The manner in which judges in Egypt are conducting themselves will make the most tyrannical regimes go blue with envy.

El-Sisi is pushing Egypt towards disaster. There is no doubt that the consequences will be terrible for the general and other assorted criminals in uniform or gowns. They will face the day of reckoning, sooner rather than later. The grim reality of life in Egypt will soon catch up with him and his criminal syndicate.
