America has the largest number of billionaires in the world. Every year, more join this elite list. The US also has the largest GDP in the world although China is fast catching up. Given this, one would expect that there would be no poverty in the US. The reality is different. There are at least 40 million people living in poverty; and an even larger number does not have medical coverage. Large parts of the US, especially inner cities, look like Third-World countries. Some cities, like Detroit have become ghost towns with crumbling infrastructure.
Last month MSNBC reported that a vast majority of Americans would not be able to afford even $400 to pay for an emergency. Trump is trying to divert attention from this grim reality by stoking racism and pandering to the worst instincts of his ignorant base. He has failed to rebuild America’s infrastructure that he promised during his election campaign.
