Preliminary results from Islamic Iran indicate that Ayatullah Ebrahim Raisi, hither to chief of the judiciary, won a resounding victory by securing 17.9 million votes in the eighth presidential election.

According to preliminary figures, a total of 28,933,004 votes were cast.

In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Iran, the fact that nearly 50% of eligible voters came out to cast ballot is significant.

This is especially important because Western powers have weaponized the pandemic to undermine Iran.

Sanctions have made the acquisition of vaccines and personal health protection equipment very difficult for Iran.

The pandemic has affected voter turnout worldwide.

Nevertheless, Islamic Iran’s electoral participation, just like in other countries, has a history of fluctuations.

According to the UNDP report “out of 14 elections held during the COVID-19 Latin America and the Caribbean region, half saw increases in voter turnout and half saw decreases in voter turnout.”

A study published in February 2021 showed that the participation in municipal elections in France decreased from 63.5% in 2014 to 44.66% in 2020.

The issue of turnout is deliberately distorted by the corporate media and the Western political establishment to undermine the significance of Iran’s election.

In many Western countries, including Canada, people of Iranian origin were prevented from exercising their democratic right to vote for a new Iranian president.

In Britain, MKO terrorists (munafiqeen) attacked people lining up to cast ballot.

Why are these so-called champions of democracy so opposed to the Iranian people exercising their fundamental right?

The election of an Islamic jurist as president of Iran is a phenomenon which further cements the presence of Islamic institutions in Iran’s state system.

This is perhaps the most significant strategic outcome of the latest presidential election.

It manifests the reality that the Islamic movement can put forward a viable governing program for Muslim majority populated regions.

This is an aspect the Western corporate media deliberately ignores.

Part of the reason why global Western neo-colonial regimes are adamantly opposed to Islamic Iran is because it has a genuine electoral system not geared to serving the oligarchs.

This factor challenges the Western political narrative at the civilizational level.

Those preaching and implementing the white man’s burden find it difficult to accept this reality.

NATO regimes have no problem backing the military dictatorship in Egypt or the barbaric Saudi regime, yet they appear to be so “concerned” about the voting rights of Iranians.

They are not. Their real concern is that Iran is able to hold elections while their regional puppets are oppressive dictatorships or monarchies, where calling for elections results in getting one’s head chopped off!

Internally, Ayatullah Raisi’s presidential term is likely to focus on implementing the resistance economy strategy.

This economic development strategy has been stressed by the Rahbar, Imam Khamenei, on numerous occasions.

Known as the resistance economy, it is based on the idea of “consumption management based on the promotion of consumption of local products parallel to the qualitative improvement of domestic production.”

This economic strategy has not fully matured but its initial implementation has protected Iran from succumbing to one of the most brutal economic sanctions regime in the world.

Externally, Raisi’s government is likely to prioritize building economic and political ties with Asian and West Asian countries.

Establishing government-to-government contacts with NATO regimes will no longer be one of the main foreign policy priorities for Islamic Iran.

This will further strengthen the multipolar world order where NATO’s global influence will continue to decline.
