Kuwait court hands down death sentences over mosque terrorist bombing

In what must be a first, a court in Kuwait has sentenced seven people to death and another 15 to prison terms for aiding and abetting terrorism. Today's sentences were handed to people that had connived with a Saudi suicide bomber who killed 27 people in Imam Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait City on June 26. More than 230 others were injured.

Seven people have been sentenced to death over a deadly bombing last June of Imam Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait City. The suicide bomber, identified by Kuwait’s Interior Ministry as Saudi national Fahd Suleiman Abdulmohsen al-Qaba’a, killed 27 people and injured 230 others while they were praying inside the mosque.

After the deadly attack, Kuwait arrested 29 people charged with aiding and abetting the Saudi suicide bomber.

The self-proclaimed terrorist group, Najd Province, part of the takfiri outfit Daesh (aka ISIS or ISIL) that has caused havoc in the region in recent years, claimed responsibility.

In addition to the seven death sentences, eight of the accused were found guilty of providing support to the Saudi terrorist and were sentenced to between two and 15 years in jail by the Kuwaiti court today.

In reporting the sentences, the Kuwait news agency (KUNA) also said 14 of the accused were acquitted. Following the June terrorist attack, prosecutors in Kuwait said they had arrested 29 people involved in the murderous plot. They included seven Kuwaitis, five Saudis, three Pakistanis, 13 illegal residents and one fugitive whose nationality is unknown.

The attack occurred in al-Sawabir, a busy residential and shopping district of the capital, Kuwait City. The Kuwaiti mosque attack followed similar attacks in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern province where in two separate attacks on Shia mosques in May, scores of worshippers were killed.

The so-called Najd Province outfit claimed responsibility for those attacks as well. Their signature mark is suicide bombings.
