Sister Zainab Cheema’s shocking statistics about sexual violence in the US military as well as prisons (Crescent, 5-2012), is merely a reflection of the reality of life in much of the Western world.

That the number of males raped in prisons exceeds females should not surprise people because of over emphasis on sex. Prison authorities take no notice of sexual violence against men or women; such behaviour is considered “normal.” What kind of civilization is that?
