The US regime has turned into a monster. Its surveillance programs are so intrusive that they spare no one, even close allies. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has found this out as have the Spaniards. They are not amused but the issue has gone beyond amusement. They are furious at such betrayal. There will be consequences. The whistleblower, Edward Snowden, has meanwhile warned of the dangers in such a policy.

Instead doing what is logical and correct, the Saudi preachers give rulings that expose their lack of Islamic knowledge. On Friday a Saudi preacher claimed that women that drive cars will damage their ovaries and will develop complications when bearing children. He did not cite any scientific or medical study for his fantastic claim. Why don't they allow women to drive cars, as they do in almost every other country in the world?

Terrorism has never been a successful strategy. Its only consequence is suffering for ordinary people. This is what is happening in Syria. The terrorist groups, however, are now fighting each other because they are unable to dislodge the government of Bashar al-Asad. Their foreign masters--Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Jordan, the US, France, Britain and Israel, to name a few--have also realized that these terrorists cannot deliver.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry met in New York to discuss ways of resolving the standoff about Iran's nuclear program. This was the first official meeting between Iran's foreign minister and his American counterpart in 34 years. While there has been much media hype about the meetings between officials of the two countries, it is yet to be seen whether any breakthrough will occur.

For the first time in 34 years, top officials from Iran will meet the Americans under the umbrella of the P5+1 talks over Iran's nuclear program. Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will meet US Secretary of State John Kerry in New York. Will this meeting lead to any meaningful progress on the nuclear issue? We will see after the meeting that is scheduled to begin at 4 pm.

Unable to crush the Ikhwan al-Muslimoon completely, the military junta has attacked the party's newspaper. In a late night raid, all its equipment was stolen by the police as they ransacked the headquarters of Al-Hurra wa al-Adala (Freddom and Justice), the same name used by the party. The regime will only allow its own dogs to bark.

The Americans were very anxious for President Barack Obama to have a "chance encounter" with President Hassan Rohani of Iran at the UN. The meeting, however, did not take place because Iran felt the proper ground was not prepared for it. Unlike the US, Iran is not interested in photo-ops; it wants serious discussion on all issues and is anxious to resolve these through dialogue held in an atmosphere of mutual respect and dignity.

By massacring unarmed civilians that were merely holding a sit-in, the military has brought Egypt to the brink of civil war. While the military may have the guns and may be able to kill a very large number of people, they have lost all credibility and will ultimately pay a heavy price for such brutality.

The Saudis have adopted an uncharacteristic position over the coup in Egypt. King Abdullah was the first foreign ruler to welcome it and immediately arranged for a $12 billion aid package for the mass murderers to continue their rampage unencumbered by financial woes.

Islamic Awakening movements (also described by some as the “Arab Spring”) are being subverted through a combination of brute force and vile propaganda. The subversion started in tiny Bahrain, moved to Libya and then engulfed Syria where it is still raging. Egypt has become its latest casualty.
