Letters To The Editor

Letter writer Abdul Jalil Khan says he has no sympathy for the people of America and Saudi Arabia, one for elected a racist as president and the other for tolerating a family of crooks.

It is difficult to feel sorry for two groups of people: the Americans and Saudis. There is a popular myth that Americans are nice people but their government is bad. If so, why have they just elected a person like Donald Trump as president? They must bear the consequences of their choice.

The other set of people is the Saudis. Unlike the Americans, the Saudis have no choice in the selection of their king but they do bear responsibility for putting up with such a corrupt clan as Bani Saud. Now people of the Arabian Peninsula will pay a huge price for the folly of their self-imposed rulers.

On September 28, the US Congress passed a bill overriding President Obama’s veto of a bill that would allow family members of the victims of 9/11 attacks to sue the Saudi regime for reparations. With some $750 billion of Saudi funds invested in the US, these are likely to be tied up in costly court litigations. Even if the families do not get much, high-priced lawyers certainly would, but Saudi funds could be tied up for years.

The Bani Saud clan has spent tens of billions of dollars on weapon purchases from the West over several decades. Far from using these weapons to defend themselves, much less Muslims elsewhere (Palestine, Kashmir, etc.), the Saudis have used them against fellow Muslims, the vast majority of whom are poor, in such places as Yemen, Syria, and Bahrain. Now the Americans plan to confiscate the rest. As the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted.
