Letters To The Editor

by Mohammed H. Siddiq (Letters To The Editor, Crescent International Vol. 43, No. 4, Sha'ban, 1435)

This reader takes a satirical look at King Abdullah’s antics.

I am the king of my desert kingdom. Listen, all who live in my land. I will speak wisdom!

This is my land; every animal and every human being in the desert is mine. I own every mountain and every creature in the field. I call upon you on the day of trouble and I expect you to deliver; if you don’t, I will tear you to pieces. You are proved right and worthy only when you obey me. I will feed you halal camel meat and long-grain rice for your good work.

Allah (swt) looks down upon me from Heaven to see if I understand. Of course, I do. All other kings are corrupt and their ways are vile. Obey me; listen to the words pouring from my mouth. Don’t ignore my orders. Hear and answer me; if you don’t, this will bring suffering upon you.

Lest I forget, decree no. 46 will follow soon. I love to send decrees as long as I can find someone to write them for me. You probably know that my father did not send me to school. The few Arabic words I know how to write are: king, amir, palace, tent, desert, camel, slave, servant, subject, sword, dollar, riyal and palm tree.

I will leave now and hurry to my harem in the palace.
