There were no Eid celebrations in Baghdad as people mourned the death of more than 250 people in the deadliest terrorist attack since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. While the takfiri terrorists claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing, the real perpetrators are the Saudi, Qatari, Turkish regimes that provide support to terrorists. Beyond that, US rulers--Bush, Cheney et al--must be held directly responsible for such crimes.

As Muslims worldwide celebrated Eid al Fitr on July 6, marking the end of the month of Ramadan, there was mourning in Baghdad following last Sunday’s (July 3) deadly terrorist suicide bombing that killed more than 250 people. The suicide bomber blew himself up as people were out shopping in the capital’s Karrada neighborhood in preparation for Eid.

The July 3 bombing was the deadliest since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 that has left the country in total ruin.

Instead of celebrating Eid, thousands of Iraqis gathered at the site of the terrorist bombing in the Karrada neighborhood on Wednesday night (July 6) to mourn the dead and pay homage to the memory of the victims. They carried candles; many openly wept and said there was nothing to celebrate in this carnage.

The takfiri terrorists that have the backing of the Saudi and Qatari regimes claimed responsibility for the attack saying they wanted to target Shia Muslims. The shopping area of Karrada neighborhood, however, is also home to Sunnis as well as a sizable Christian community.

Both Iraqi Christians and Sunnis joined other mourner at the site of the crime. They rejected the takfiri terrorists’ claim to speak on their behalf. "We came from all the areas of Baghdad to stand in solidarity with the people of Karrada and the martyrs of Karrada," said Haider Mohammed Hassan, one of those gathered at the bomb site.

While the dastardly crime was condemned by a number of governments in Europe and the Muslim world including Islamic Iran, Lebanon, the Arabian rulers remained silent. For them, the lives of Iraqi civilians are not important especially when their pet terrorists that have suckled poisoned milk from the breast of Wahhabism, are involved in this barbaric act.

Equally revealing has been the silence of the so-called Muslim leaders in North America that are quick to condemn any act anywhere in the world against Western targets. Since they get their orders—and money—from the same despicable Arabian regimes that finance and encourage the terrorists, their silence in the face of such crimes as the one in Baghdad is revealing.

The question that needs to be asked is: who is responsible for this latest terrorist outrage?

To say that the takfiri terrorists carried out the attack—they have admitted it—would be to offer a partial explanation. The takfiri terrorists did not emerge in a vacuum and do not operate in a vacuum. They have powerful backers, the principal one being the Saudi regime that has illegally occupied the Arabian Peninsula. Justification for such crimes is provided by the obnoxious Saudi court preachers that are full of hate.

But we must go even further back and pin the blame where it squarely belongs: at the illegal US-led Western invasion and destruction of Iraq in 2003. The Chilcot Inquiry report of Britian (July 6) confirmed that the war was launched on a pack of lies. Iraq as a country has been destroyed and today lies in ruins.

It will take decades to rebuild, if at all. Such terrorist acts will not cease unless those behind them—the Saudi, Qatari and Turkish regimes—as well as war criminals like George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and Tony Blair—are put on trial and brought to justice for crimes against humanity.
