The on again, off again talks on Syria seem to be going nowhere. The Saudis and Americans want to include some terrorist groups whose presence is rejected by Syria, Russia and Iran. They argue, quite rightly, how can terrorists be allowed at the table to talk about peace. For now, the UN Special envoy for Syria says he hopes the talks would begin on Friday January 29. It is yet to be seen whether they will occur.

Colleagues and friends of the late Dr Kalim Siddiqui participated in a memorial conference on April 23 to pay tribute to his remarkable academic as well as social and political work. The Bani Saud (aka the House of Saud) that have illegally occupied the Arabian Peninsula, are feeling the heat these days. They have compounded their dilemma by executing Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr that has evoked international condemnation. They are seeking Pakistan's help as was evident during Saudi FM Adel al-Jubeir's visit, to bail them out. One hopes the Pakistani rulers have better sense.

When a puppet regime leads other puppets, the result is often disastrous. The Saudi regime of Najdi Bedouins cut off relations with Islamic Iran followed by their puppets in Bahrain and Sudan. The crime was committed by the Najid Bedouins in unjustly executing a respected alim and human rights activist, Sheikh Nimr al Nimr. The Najdi Bedouins will pay a heavy price for this crime.

By executing the respected scholar and human rights activist, Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, the Saudi regime has added to its long list of crimes. This one, however, may prove its undoing. Sheikh Nimr's execution reflects the regime's failures both internally and externally and will only hasten its downfall. The world would be a far better place without this bunch of savages from the backwaters of Najd.

At a time when the wars on Syria and to a lesser extent on Yemen have dominated media headlines, the Palestinians’ suffering has fallen off the radar screen. They continue to suffer even if the media would not report it.
