The terrorist attacks in Brussels killed at least 34 people and injured hundreds of others. The attacks have been widely condemned. Beyond such condemnation, what is needed is to go to the root of the problem: alienation of Muslim youth because of rampant racism in Europe, and the terrorist producing factory called Saudi Arabia. If Western governments turn a blind eye to Saudi poisoning of the minds of Muslim youth, this problem will fester.

The Kurds are spread over different countries, the victims of colonial carve-up of the Muslim East (aka the Middle East) but they tend to make decisions that are not in their own best interest. Their latest move, a declaration of autonomy in northeast Syria is one such example. This is likely to complicate the possibility of achieving a political solution to the 5-year-old war on Syria.

One of the leading Islamic political thinkers and activists, Dr Hasan al-Turabi passed away today in Khartoum. He was 84. A specialist in Islamic Law (he had a PhD in Islamic Law), he had contributed many books on the subject as well as served in various capacities in political office. Close to many Sudanese leaders, he eventually fell out with them ending in prison on numerous occasions.

American presidential primaries are meant to entertain people and make them believe that they have a say in whom they choose to be their next president. With money being the primary decider of such races, it is not surprising the statement 'America has the best democracy money can buy' has stuck. This year's primaries are laced with angry rhetoric and racism. It is all very scary.
